1. hours of experience, another words you have to acumulate X amount of hours and have a shop verify them. 2. you could get a certificate for individual field in auto mechanics e.g.: engine mechanical, electric & electronics, carburation & fuel injection, chutches & brakes, steering & suspension. Also I believe to become a master mechanic you need more then just automobile knowledge. (aircraft, trains, mechanical equipment, boats 2 cycle engines and I think sewing machines. just kidding on the last one) So going back to you question, take the job and don't worry about it, most places will help you get the certification you need.
